Moving site

Well, I am changing the comic from Spaz Hands to Inky Phalangies (as in Angie...). So go read the newest one at InkyComics.blogspot.com. It's a good one.

Star Trek Fan

I was watching this again for the third or fourth time that night.  Love that movie. I love all the Star Trek stuff. So good. Agh!

Anyways, I'm back. Sheesh. I am at school, now. I am currently waiting for some files to upload to Google Drive to get them from the lab to my house. But I am staying on top of my homework well. I will upload them to my tumblr (inkyphalangies) after I turn them in. There is one up now and I will be posting two more tonight.

So I am not sure where this comic is going. I might turn it more into a daily comic. Sort of, or more than sort of, in the style of Citric Comics by Ian Anderson, a comic I love.

I will eventually do comics about the drive from Seattle to Vermont. Not sure when. I can't find my drawing pad that I took notes in. There's some good stuff in there. Like tracking the things we saw on the side of the road.

Not quite a teapot

I think about this every night before I fall asleep because I often fall asleep with one hand on my hip and one on my head.

Don't forget about the Kickstarter for Awesome Possum, the natural science comic anthology! Next stretch goal at $1400 is stickers for all physical reward tiers.

Spiders everywhere!

So this never actually happened of course, but I fear it of course. Abe stores his rubber boots outside. Well, he did. They are now garbage because we were both scared of how many spiders could be in them.

Bellyrub Funnytongue

So yeah. That happened.
\
I watched Star Trek: Into Darkness and couldn't do anything else because it was so awesome. This was at least my third time watching it.

Don't forget! Check out the kickstarter for my natural science comic anthology, Awesome Possum. We are close to funding at the time I'm writing this. It's so good.

Source documents

This is what I have been doing at work. Creating accounting videos. This was a doodle of a concept, but it's not in the video.

So if you want to see better updates here, help me afford things. Become a patron of the arts and pledge to my monthly patron at http://www.patreon.com/inkyphalangies.

You can also go check out the new sketch blog I started with some of my natural science illustration classmates at thewayweseenature.Tumblr.com. we will have a weekly theme.

Accepted to CCS

Our reactions to me getting accepted at the Center for Cartoon Studies, which, if you have not heard, is where I will be attending to get my MFA starting this fall.

Still does not feel real. We are moving across the country, almost as far as it is possible to go, in 2 months. And I still can't believe it. They believe it at work though. Preparations are being made. My job is dwindling away before my very eyes. I kind of wish it had been more abrupt. This is brutal. I gave 5 months notice!

Abe's monkey dance? He does that whenever he is really excited. This is not the first time I have seen it.

Savages

Yay! A real comic! Took me long enough. I have a bunch, but getting them digitized is a problem. Especially with the gray was, as you can see.
Well, if you are in Seattle area, I hope you can come to the Burke museum tonight, June 24, because from 6 to 9, we will have our natural science illustration art show or my class. The guy on this pillow is part of my piece. That is a pillow that you can buy and have in your house. :O
But I think this is the best thing in my shop right now: a corgi iPhone case!

Situation: dumb

I forgot to prep an image for today. So you get this angst filled drawing from yesterday instead of the real comic you were supposed to get. I did something dumb but fortunately a classmate caught it. OK, OK. I forgot to update Alyssa's biography in our class anthology and it had already been printed. But it is fixed now.

Tapir dress

So June 24, Tuesday, is the art opening for my class's show at the Burke museum in Seattle. 6 to 9. If you are in the area, come check it out. It should be awesome. My classmates are so talented. If you can't make it, the show will be up until October.

But I have been thinking about what I want to wear. Ideally, this would be it. But it doesn't exist. So I'm thinking a nice dress and some knee high socks with whales.

Rabid Squirrel

And I scare all the clients because I am right next to the door of the training room. In our old building, I was hidden away in a corner.

Swimming dodos

Actually swimming suit dodos. Next maybe actually swimming dodos.

Leaning Tower of Tea Bags

I finally did stop this. Enough people thought I was gross to influence my behavior. (Apparently that number is three.) But I do like looking at them. I drink black tea at work - mostly Irish breakfast - and I love the color of the dry tea bags. Beautiful reds and browns. No one understands me.

Awesome

Here's what I actually intended to post last Thursday. This might not seem super amazing, but this is the cover of the comic I did as part of my MFA application to the Center for Cartoon Studies in Vermont. The awesome part is, I got in! We are all moving to Vermont in August sometime. I hope to be able to keep up this comic. I don't plan to have a regular job while going to school. It is going to be a lot of work, but I think I should be able to do both.
Anyways, you can read the whole comic online.

Memorial day weekend

So I promised something really cool. This is not it. Maybe next Tuesday. I'm so tired. But school is almost over for the year and I can get back to a regular sleep schedule.
You might also notice on the last panel I have a Dino on my shirt. This is a nod to one of my new favorite web comics, Extra Ordinary, at exocomics.com. I highly recommend you check it out.

Pigeon

Well, I have been working on images like this instead of my autobio comics. And it turns out I ran out of pre-scheduled comics last week. Whoops. This is actually sort of autobio. Abe and I saw these pigeons in downtown Seattle while waiting for the bus and there was all this colored popcorn around. Blue. Yellow. Red. Green. This particular drawing was a for homework, but I didn't think I spent enough time on it (like 4 hours) so I did another and it still only took 6 hours.

I have a cool post for Thursday, as long as I remember to do it. And as of June 4, all my homework for the Natural Science Illustration classes should be done. I also have some comics done but not scanned or anything. Like 5 from the last year or so. Sheesh, I have been so busy since I started school! Worth it.

Main Street Museum

Wow this place was nuts. I had a great time and really look forward to taking Abe there sometime. Never seemed so much taxidermy in one place before. The concert afterwards was pretty great too, but I have no idea who it was. Forgot to write down their names.

Despite the amount of cheese, my food was actually really good. I loved having an apple and chunk of corn bread for lunch most days. And the muffin and grande tea for breakfast! Yum.

Books!

I didn't even go into the library until Wednesday or Thursday. What a waste! I grabbed a handful of books and even traded with Allie. I read Lucille by Ludovic Debeurme and I think that was the best book of my trip. I started reading Big Questions by Anders Nilsen, too but didn't have time to finish it. I do want to get that book though. They were both fantastic. In fact, I was just thinking about Lucille again yesterday on the drive home.

Binding

This might have been the greatest epiphany of the week. Perfect binding and Coptic binding. So perfect. I want to do them to everything. I have used the coptic binding a lot, but I haven't really printed anything I want to perfect bind. Soon maybe. That's Luke Healy up there teaching us binding. (He's currently a senior in the Master's program at CCS.)

Messy mess mess

Oh boy. When she said that, I think there were 8 drinks on my desk. They are all drawn on there. There might have been others I missed.
I am also well know for my messy and unprofessional desk at my current job, technical writer at a government financial software company. Fortunately, the cleaning crew has started taking away my empty soda cans. But they have yet to take away my awesome Leaning Tower of Tea Bags.

Sweaty sweat sweat

Huh. That fourth panel is me thinking a bit too close up of that sweat on my chin dripping into my comic. I would have been very upset. I don't think I have sweat so much in my life than that week in Vermont. I think White River Junction is to this day covered in particles of my sweat.

Making stuff, reaching goals

Looks like I forgot about posting on Thursday, but I think I will finish all these and then get my back log drawn back up. So that should get me through next quarter.

That was my first time screen printing and it was awesome. I really want to do some more. And I think I will. Also, I now think her name was Izzy, not Lizzy.

More folks. So many.

More comics about the Cartooning Studio workshop I went to in Vermont at the Center for Cartoon Studies. So this is being posted the day after my last class. This only only the 7th page of the 23 I did. I suppose I will keep posting them. Then I can get a whole stack of more comics done before I start class again and hopefully won't run out until July. Since I will complete this certificate program on June 18.

Signing up for the best workshop

I am failing at finding time to make more Spaz Hands comics even though I am still writing things down to do comics about. So until I have time, that should be the middle of March, I am going to post the comics I drew about my trip to Vermont in August 2013 to go to the Cartooning Studio workshop at the Center for Cartoon Studies. It was an amazing trip and I think I missed a lot of the great stuff. But I can still remember the wonderful feeling of being there. Comics all day every day. So here is the first.

Hourly Comics Day 2014

Sheesh. I forgot to post these. I did Hourly Comics Day this year, which is traditionally February 2. Finally it was a on a weekend when I do more than stare at a computer screen for 8 hours or more and drive for at least an hour and a half. I was even going to go to the zoo with Abe, but we had to cancel because the washer/dryer was going to be installed. Worth it!

Dogs are the best

I don't know why my handwriting is so messy in this one. Probably too excited about dogs while I drew this. I can't believe how much I love dogs sometimes. I'm on zyrtek once a day now so I am not itchy so much when I pet the dogs, but my face sure is leaky a lot.
\That last panel is a bunch of fat-bellied Whippet puppies. So cute with their big round bellies, but they never get bigger as the dog does. I think the circumference of their puppy belly is about the same as the adult.
Anyways, I think I forgot to post this awesome image announcing that you can buy Spaz Hands Volume 1.
Abe this this image is so weird. He laughed and laughed.

More love! I was in a good mood when I made these last two comics, I think.

Sleepy Chic

When I ask Abe how I look in the morning, he laughs and says, "So Angela." I am not sure what this means. He claims it is a good thing. Anyways, sleepy chic is what happens when I forget to pull out clothes the night before. It can get a bit wild. Enough that people notice when I am not wearing "sleepy chic."
Sleepy chic also usually involves sitting on the edge of the bed for about 10 minutes trying to think of something to wear before giving up and grabbing what looks good.

Some good bed time reading so you will wake up refreshed? The first volume of Spaz Hands in a lovely print collection! No nightmares not guaranteed.

Listing

High school was a high point in my list making. I made so many lists. And as a pack rat, I kept a lot of them. I didn't learn HTML until maybe 2003. Just last week I finally got rid of the notes I wrote down when I was trying to teach myself. For some reason, I had a class about making a website without any HTML requirements. I ended up making it in Word!
Fake creatures was another thing I did in high school. I have a notebook full of them. All designed for the same planet. A lot of them based on my friends at the time. :) Above is Leeloo, based on Lael, I think, and Rooni, based on Roni (it's part gazelle, part lion). These are based on my memory because the notebook is currently in storage. Yes, I still have them.

Even the collection of the first year in a print volume has a list of "characters" that are in it.

Squirrel!

We've moved offices since this, but at our old office for my day job, I had a nice window seat. (Now I am in the middle of the building and all the windows are tinted.) And right outside my window was a little tree. And in that tree, there were often squirrels. I never jumped out of my seat, but that was mostly because I didn't want the squirrel to see me and run away.
Man I  miss having a window.

If you are as excited as me, you can fill your time rereading the first year of comics, but in print!
